Because I use an AC Adapter (which I *highly* recommend), the airflow was much stronger. The cool air helped lower my body temperature and I felt like I was sitting next to an AC. Now, it doesn't replace an AC but I feel that it is better than a fan! I have to say the Handy Cooler is simply the most useful gadget ever. If you have not known already, UPS trucks do NOT have air conditioning because of our frequent stops to houses. I used to keep little fans in the truck while I was driving but they barely helps. The hot air inside the truck just keeps getting recycled. My son got me the Handy Cooler last month and it has made my job so much easier under the hot weather. I usually keep a big water bottle in the car and jus wet the cooling filter whenever it gets dried up. I saw that there is a 6V AC output on the Handy Cooler, so I tried to plug a 6v car adapter into it and it worked! The only problem is that it was hard to place the Handy Cooler so that it would blow directly on my face. I had to use a lot of blue tag to stick it in place on the dashboard. The size of the handy cooler is astonishing for an air cooler. It is about the size of a water bottle and the handle fits very well. I love how you can adjust the angle of the blowout direction. The air that comes out is cooler than fans, and it doesn't come off too strong. However, don't expect it to be as cold as and as powerful as a full-size AC. GET IT WORKING It works by evaporation. For cool air, you need to wet the sponge with the mini-bottle provided or wet it with water over the sink. I think it might even be a good idea to put it in the fridge for a while so that the air that comes out is even cooler.
